storied

While looking for a particular photo from the end of
my stay in Istanbul, I was reminded of the fantastic
old buildings in that part of the city; the arch is dated 1904,
& a lot appear to be from that era, though the
decoration top left resembles an Assyrian Vampire palace..
Of course 1904 is relatively new, for Istanbul.

sounds like a great idea

memory museum

There was an attractive small museum I went to in
Germany ~ Augsberg? ~ with the bronze horse head;
makes me remember the different horses we had as
kids, or later. We each developed incredibly strong
bonds with our own horses. We could ride all day
without seeing a fence.

Equine therapy is an interesting development.
look at how this great horse bounces!

acanthus

Scanned the leaves top left, photographed in Germany,
I think it's the acanthus family: looking at some of the photos
from Istanbul, of architectural details, it's hard to be sure.
The pillar top centre is closer to Greek times.

hand coloured

Twice I was the guest of generous friends in Germany,
in winter (going into a sublime spring), & the landscape was
hardly coloured; deeply mysterious in the forest

I loved it, but.. long, long winters.. no thanks.

lovely polaroids & photographs from Pia Jane Bijkerk

avalokiteshvara

From 5 different museums, photos of Kuan Yin, & a drawing
I did of a 12th c statue. Originally Avalokiteshvara, the name
became Kuan Yin as Buddhism moved east to China.

She/he is the embodiment of compassion.
Sorry, it was long ago, ('80's ?) I didn't note where they were.

Buddhanet will fill in any blanks.. & listen to the beautiful
Ani Choying, also singing Amazing Grace, or anything at all.

ninety-one

Yesterday, July 5, our mother would have been 91.
That's her on the left, holding me; her mother has my twin,
& our great-grandmother is centre. She was born in Denmark.
Today our group (with Meike) was exploring how this seemingly
solid body comes to believe in an 'I'... this is my body..
if/as there is no-one here, then no-one dies. Check it out.
The angel/s were in London. Words seem nonsensical.

Interesting work from Thomas Allen
& great photos to put us in a more realistic perspective.

warmer

This is a variation from a time in Bavaria, it never, so far, gets
so cold here. I want to get out in the sun, & this photo was ready.
If you have to be inside, here's a good online magazine

trees

It feels a little like spring, sunny after big rains.

So I was playing with some ideas, from photos I took in Bavaria
several years ago. I like the creatures that show up.

My sister has begun radiation, this link was opportune.

how we recognise

Don't you find it interesting that we know this is english,
or at least europe, just from that green..

Here might be Spain, though in fact it's the beautiful
Posada Carmina, Mexico, where I stayed two summers,
&, right, a country house in Chiapas..

This is ranch land but it's not quite the idea you have of Mexico,
is it?

In Chiapas there are two wet seasons, it has a unique ambiance.
My computer room, now, looks onto a tropical yard.
Storm coming. A link to that foreign country: the past.

green light

There's a lovely wet radiance today, reminds me of
the green light in these shots, at different places.
Plus there seems to be a metaphoric green light
happening ~ shall see how it unfolds.

&, just because I love watching, here are dolphins again.

totems

This is an idea that's been brewing for years:
As a guest at my friends' place on a lake in Bavaria,
I saw the forest & lake in many moods.
It's said to have been settled there for a really long time,
it certainly has a very strong & somehow female energy.
The reflections make a kind of totem.
There's some great images in that vein here.
( check out some of the European tree websites.)

garden

Today my darling sister will visit.
Yesterday, at our group, we tuned in to the "old brain",
that part which has sensations & emotions
but no words. For me it evoked a magical garden,
an eden.
I've looked for garden sites that show something similar,
without success. Here is a charming site & story.
Above photo was a sunny spring morning in the country
( more domesticated than the inner one) in Germany.

strange times

A few of the sins we're supposed to avoid
are showing up world-wide.
It's quite exciting, really being aware of not knowing
what tomorrow will bring ~
into this moment, now.
I took the peacocks to an English graveyard,
& they move through time & space.
It's a small edition of 8, on glossy paper,
16 inches wide.
as usual, please write a comment for more details

On the left is before an exhibition set up (at the Met in NY)
right are the bared trees after a big festival.
Out in the wider world, it's looking crazy,
but more like they've chopped down the trees..
Take a break & listen to the sublime voice of
Alim Qasimov

a few more

Plus I've lived at Nimbin, Springbrook, San Francisco,
Main Arm, Seeshaupt. Much as I love trees, & beach,
& the colour of towns, it's the mountains that
had the deepest effect.
Maybe that's true..

places I've lived

Following on from directions followed ~ I've lived in
many places, some of these, in no particular order are
Lucknow, Maui, Bali,
(Walter Spies' paintings in Bali were a joy to discover)

..Barrenjoey lighthouse, Cape Cod, Crested Butte,
Galisteo, Lincoln, London

& Dalhousie.
At that time there were several Tibetan monasteries.
My friends were thangka painting monks, who often
laughed when they saw my paintings. I helped start
a small school there for Tibetan children whose parents
worked weaving carpets.
Sublime views from the cottage.
