old photographs

Scanning some old photos & wishing I could time-travel
back to the 70's with digital cameras,
as many of these are from contact prints,
or badly scratched negs that have been lost. & now there must be
4 or 5 hundred million more people since when I lived in India.
Probably the most amazing times were the Pushkar mela
in about 1971, & a week on
a picnic boat down the Jhelum River in Kashmir.
But living up the hill from the Dalhousie bazaar, for years;
& staying with Indian friends as part of their family,
being in Varanasi for months ~ then it felt ok to
photograph the people I saw.

Dream picture

An edition of 4, for this one. It's 28 inches wide, & looks best
on glossy paper, though it then needs glass, which usually
means reflections. It could still work, as the image plays on that.

clear winter days

One morning I went with friends to the lighthouse
to watch for whales, another day we stopped near some
casuarinas, & only later did I see what was there.
Oh, & here's one of the pages from the book
A Recipe for Dreaming, published by Penguin;
Bryce Courtenay's words, my photographs,
it's available in many Australian bookstores.
