wild

Went up the coast to meet an old friend,
past all the gale damage, the ocean was still wild

it was beaten like cream, with that funny froth at the edges

from high up, the waves look smaller,
really they were huge seas.

wet

It's been so wet here, trees thrashing around,
rivers flooding, a weather system beating down
much of the east coast of Australia.
Good indoors.

clouds

Clearing gigabytes of clouds from storage

Liked these single ones

There will be a few days of them..
cyclonic weather.

folks-2

a fisherman intent on his catch

With the help of a friend I was able to send a packet of
prints etc back to this family. A polaroid camera would
be so handy! Post can be so unreliable.

some fascinating book sculpture

folks

sometimes I snatch one like this

usually I ask or mime a request

at times I think the person so beautiful, I have to get one

& I'm grateful when they can see I see how
beautiful they are.
& you know, I read about a photographer I admire,
who thinks he must know the people first.
It often seems though, when travelling, that the senses
are heightened, the barriers drop, & theres the
knowing that we are not separate. Very occasionally
the camera is also in tune.

girls-1

Much as I'd like to photograph lots of people
while I'm travelling - so many wonderful faces -

am hesitant to do so, & even more so to post them
(so the only label is 'photos')

Sometimes we share a language, that helps.
How do you approach it?

20/01/2013

still

What I most remember about dawns in Pokhara
is the stillness

yes, theres the start of noise, birds, dogs, kitchens

then theres the mountains coming into being
halfway up the sky.

I want that book!

18/01/2013

lake

The panorama option on my camera works for some views

generally I like to see things closer

The lake in Pokhara covered most preferences.

time

These would be good to draw

but the camera is quicker

the lilies in my garden have a faster clock than mine..

variations

Have begun painting again, after a long time.
About 10 years!
Today I tried out this idea on the computer, its
crumpled waxed paper superimposed with a photo
I took in Nepal; perhaps I'll try out a variation as a print.
Probably wont paint it, am enjoying attempting to get
the mountains as I saw them there:
simultaneously solid & ethereal.

drops

Had trouble with my printer, made a mess in the sink,
got some photos of it.
Bad bushfires in many parts of Australia,
..send some rain..

visitors

This guy was sampling the vegetables,

while this one was slowly swaying across the path.
There are lots of birds around because of the bird bath,
even more insects.

underfoot

They're not upside down

I'm looking at the pavement

after rain ~ in Thailand for these 3.

earthsky for looking up -
info is possibly best for northern hemisphere

classic

A classic old shed/garage near my place.
The house has been sold, that probably means
it will be demolished.

metal

metal that becomes a mirror

02/01/2013

sculptural

At first I thought this was bones, or a fossil;
its a large rock from china, formed by nature,
now in the art gallery of NSW.

Wonder whether it's accurate colour
