styles

This kind of stencil decoration is quite often used
in the wats, in this case on a scriptures box

I didn't notice this kind of narrative stucco decoration
as much, though I've seen it in Laos

What you do see at the end of months of rain, is how
the exuberance of decoration might derive
from the flowers, vines, trees
that are everywhere proliferating.

blue signs

No idea what the sign means, it looks good.
So did blue sky, it meant no rain today.

mirrors

I'll be adding photos from my Thailand trip for
quite a while yet. I love the mirrored walls at different
wats, but its hard to show their effect: each small movement
of the viewer/camera sees another facet, &, in the larger
pieces, with movement around, you'd never
get the same result twice.

slow

Walking quite slowly helps me to see more, plus
one's attention is drawn to different subjects at
different times, wouldn't you say?
Had to retire to the aircon sometimes, too.
& I was getting some dental work done.

Probably have thousands of buddha photos,
always room for more..

jonathon jones on art... what people don't often mention
is that its dealers & collectors who profit,
not so often the artist.

chiang mai

Dragons decorate every wat, but this is the only crocodile
I saw, don't know if they live so far north

In fact it didn't rain much, though it was
extremely humid

& geckos were about, looking for their share of other wildlife.

hot & wet

Everything growing, including weeds, was green
& prolific. I noticed that in the darker wats,
an out of focus shot could still be interesting.
& that wats are mostly an artwork in progress, so there
is always something new - or previously un-noticed.
I think I visited almost every wat
at least once; for one I waited the whole month,
the restorations were complete on the last day.

home

The best part of flying, for me - the only good part, really -
is looking out the window.
This was over Malaysia, on my way to Chiang Mai.

As I've been there several times, I wasn't sure it would
still be interesting for photography. It was a different time
of year, the end of the wet season, the trees were magnificent,
& anyway we always see things differently,
wouldn't you agree? Also very hot.

I stayed most of the month at Baan Ramida
