travel

Details of a travellers palm, left shows the inner structure
when a branch is lopped. I was thinking about how, in our
familiar landscape, we notice the trees & whatever is around
on an almost daily basis, & then can choose the best time
to photograph it, while we mostly depend on chance,
while travelling.
I'll be away for a month, probably won't be posting,
please return then.

growing

The young water dragon top left sits on the same spot every
afternoon, I think he waits for the house lights to attract
his dinner. A red dragon fly right.

The adult water dragons look quite fearsome, but can be
almost tame, they appear to have a regular territory.
One used to share my neighbours cat's food.

as tall

There's a giant flower growing from a sharp leaved plant
(perhaps a yucca?) beside the flagpole at the local RSL,
its as tall as the flag. I've noticed several plants that seem
to mimic a man-made artifact, like a street light~
it's very amusing.
Oh, & see that grey spot top centre? A week before I leave
my camera has developed a problem, there's no time
to get it fixed. Better now than there, I guess.

hearts

I took one cloud heart today, but only to check my camera,
it's definitely developed a fault, & at an inconvenient time.
There's no time for a repair, but there
is time to do something, don't know what, yet.
These above are from other days/years.

klongs

On the way to Nepal I'll have a couple of days in Bangkok.
This time I'd like to explore more of the klongs
& some of the temples on the other side of the river.
I wonder how much the old wooden houses were
damaged by the floods, some looked quite frail already.

yangtze

I went down the Yangtze about 1982, there were
a few other foreigners on the boat, from Chungking to
Shanghai, & lots of chinese, it was deadly hot by Wuhan.
I'd wanted to go to Dunhuang, but couldn't face the heat
How many more people since then?

river-day 2

More rocks from the Mekong..
The reason the days are too busy to do much else is
that I'm organising another trip, on fairly short notice,
which will include another great river, the Ganga..

river, day 1

You can check the 2008 archives, for other photos of the
Mekong; here I was thinking about how fascinating it
would be for a geologist, every few minutes it seemed
to be a different rock formation.
Of the large rivers I've been on, this is my favourite.

Hanoi

Lovely ethnographic museum in Hanoi,
outside was mayhem, it was new year.
Here it will be busy for a while so I'll dig in my archives,
probably.

random

Am busy with something else, so opened a random folder
then ditto for these photos, which are from
the Mekong delta, during a 2008 trip.
It's in between Vietnam & Cambodia.
There's 300 GB files in that external hard drive (1 of 3)
even so I may have repeated some.

colour

These are the other photos I converted to b/w,
Maybe the results are different if you start out
thinking in b/w ?

But there is so much colour in the world!

Even when it's mostly just one colour, I prefer it.
How about you?
