angel/surfer

You could say it's upside down , though I like it better
this way. It reminds me a little of the marvellous cutout
figures in some of Peter Callesan's pieces.

up close

More scans from botanic gardens photos, They mostly had
names, I don't keep notes of such things. In Melbourne
this weekend, Isaac & Meike, a rare opportunity.

Melbourne

Some scans from a trip to Melbourne.
The botanical gardens there are wonderful.

drifting

A few more from slr days, when I'd walk most days at
Tallows beach (Byron Bay)

This summer seems hotter than before?

sand patterns

More scans. I love sand patterns, they may look a bit
beige when I get back from Thailand, though. No
posts while I'm away, I don't travel with a computer.

water patterns

Has to be one of my favourite phenomena,
light+ water+movement.
(Still crinkles in the computer, having problems with sending
emails, if I owe you one that may be why.)

time to watch this dolphin play again?

seeing patterns

Rocks that reveal a little differently each time..
rather like one's own patterns/tendencies..

Patterns made by small shelled creatures, I then played
with the photos.

high

Have been scanning again, here's the view from the hotel
I stayed at for about 4 months ~ every so often the clouds
would pull back to reveal the mountains ~ in Darjeeling.
Liked the hotel too, hardly changed since the raj.
Some of that snow would be very nice today.

abbreviated

These are the last 2 spreads, of my short art history,
I ran out of pages in the book

oh well, history is totally subjective like most other things.
No?
To see some of the masterpieces in the great museums
is to fill a need that little else reaches. In Thailand it's
possible to find great art still in a living situation.. shall
see some soon!! (also true in India, Laos, Cambodia et al)

the asian art museum in San Francisco.

22/01/2010

4th & 5th spread

Maybe my history is a bit vague at times, or dates for some
cultures are still controversial..
maybe I didn't scan all the pages..

also it had a lot to do with what photos or pages I could find;
am sure there was a lot happening in asia all through time.

21/01/2010

more pages

If you know any art history, it's self explanatory..
if not, wonderful discoveries ahead of you, in any museum,
at sites both actual & virtual, tons of books etc.

I usually feel some strong connection to the artists, sculptors,
makers of artifacts from whatever time, as I'm sure most
creative people do, don't they?

Amazing coincidence: the British Museum

art history

Took one of those great concertina drawing books & made
a kind of collage art history, some time back, then played
with it a bit on the computer. There's paint, drawings &
added paper. As I'm busy elsewhere, I'll post the spreads
over next few days.

Thoughts are moving to these timelines

testing

Testing the repaired Canon, it seems ok, at right was
another day with my small camera, so not very useful..
Enjoying Johnathon Lethem's Chronic City:
another version of a similar idea: one in 8 million

The real test: to get through more delays with my computer,
returned it 4 times. The flowers are quite the opposite to
how it felt, in me. Think tooth & nail..
The last 2 posts I'd scheduled via post options, so it's
well over 2 weeks of messing around.
Damn, all my bookmarks are gone, all the sites I've enjoyed
over the past 2 years. That's really a ****** nuisance,
it includes all the sites I need for next month's trip, to
Chiang Mai & northern Thailand; if you want to recommend
some, please ~ put them in a comment.

quiet

These scans are from film shot 7-8 years ago, must be before
the new highway to Brisbane was built, & the hordes began..
As I recall I could often be alone on some beaches. Space..
No doubt there are others who would rather go where there
are big herds of people.. you see it in restaurants, more people
want to eat where it's crowded, even though they are all
from out of town & don't know what the food's like.

15/01/2010

fishing

Went through a big box of photos from an slr film camera, while
waiting for computer dramas to resolve.. still waiting, really.
If there's fish being caught, pelicans often turn up, & some
fishermen fillet their catch at the beach , leave the remains
for these wonderful birds. Sometimes they would mistake
the silver camera body for food, & land beside me. One time
we looked at each other, up close, for a long time,
until he shook himself & wandered off ~ gave me such a buzz.

These chickens have been trying to get on the blog,
can't find any word connections.. they made me smile,
in Laos last year.

de-light

Moving 100's of GB of files around to new locations,
mostly to another external hard drive. This little boy was
so delighted to be at the beach one day, caught him in that
lightness of being ~that has been hiding behind a me,
for days, so to speak

fire

Have been breathing fire for a week at least..

Computer was back at the fixers, hope that's it for a while.
Also its been very hot here. In WA I heard it was 53
degrees, many black cockatoos fell dead from the trees.
Have been wondering if I can justify getting a small
computer to travel with next time (soon) today I think
maybe 5 weeks rest would be better.

old ones

Some of my paintings from the early 70's reflect an interest in
altered states, usually very complicated details.
Left has a blue cast that would take too long
to remove, right is bird flying through a moment in time.
The paintings I'd like to make now would look simpler,
but might take as long, with many glazes.

doors

An early painting & a lotus at my front door.
Still some problems with my computer, they seem to have
changed a lot of settings, & I have so little patience with
anything technical.. at such times I think about the
simplicity of just painting pictures.
After 10 years of computer though, it seems too slow..

battles

My camera is still being fixed, then this week my computer died..
Various other challenges, a friend said it could be Mars
hitting Chiron in my chart ~ battles & old stuff, sounds
about right. Didn't lose all the data, though, just had to replace
a lot of hardware, maybe next update will be to a mac.

tourists

There was a big flock of seagulls on the beach yesterday.
Maybe more arrive as more tourists come to Byron Bay.
As for the latter I wish they'd find another place
to love to death.

rock

Some days at the beach are a big surprise,
the tides unearth different rocks, which may be covered
again for another 50 or more years; once I saw some
with 1915 scratched in. Same with sand patterns,
it can feel like a private showing.

Then there's the rocks that have held a powerful position
in the culture, for millennia. Nimbin Rocks top right
is one which indigenous women are not supposed to even
look at.. I saw some very unusual sights there one time.
Canyon de Chelly in the usa has an elevated, spiritual vibration
~ similar to being in the high mountains.

laurent freyss photographs, I really enjoy his view of India.

these days

Over these (semi) holidays, various friends & family have
visited: one day we went to Bangalow, which has a lovely
green area behind the main street. The marvellous
Windhorse gallery is in Bangalow, an exquisite collection of
Tibetan thangkas, & artifacts.
There was a beachfront craft market one day, many more
people at the beach. It's tropical weather in Byron Bay.

I made a fun morphing video of my face, from baby to now,
& ending with this skull; it's small but still too big to upload.
Instead: water that echoes the skull more or less (sorry, I don't
remember where the skull came from, it looks like one
of the amazing crystal ones from Mexico)

as it is

In 2010, I wish you the kind of year where you can
chill out when it gets too hot

...or warm yourself if things turn cold.
& most of all that you can simply enjoy each moment as it is ...
