Sorry, I don't know where this came from,
it came without details, except that it's a beach in China.

Found a new vein of fascinating sites ~ here's one with old
postcards & stamps, so evocative when they are on the
original envelope, aren't they? Those places before tourism,
so utterly alluring !

Something was hungry. Today in Byron all the restaurants

that were open looked full ~ it's a holiday in Queensland,
& unfortunately the new highway is quick..

The beach today was just perfect,
lapping softly to the edge, then a few small rolling waves,
then calm again. Another couple of hundred shots, got some
really good ones, my finger was in tune. & it was quiet.

Thailand; suits today, there are bushfires just
west of here, can smell the smoke.

New flower spikes on the grass trees, & some signs of spring,
also a cheeky bird that dive bombed my head ~ must have a
nest nearby.

We don't really get a Spring, though there is a noticeable
vigour in the plant world.

Thought a bit more about the act of drawing, particularly
old artifacts, sculpture etc..
or anything, really

..it can feel as if there's a link to the person who originally
made the object, as the pen moves around it's shape.
Maybe a (lesser) version of the Tibetan thangka painter
becoming the deity he is painting.

I enjoy the synthesis of old & new in Soody Sharifi's work
The brilliant Mitsuru Koga, see his tiny stone vessels.

Scanned these from a small drawing book I like to use
in museums

Maybe some were in the British Museum, some in Munich

I miss having places like that to draw in.
Not for any purpose, just for the fun of drawing.

The local farmers' market here is Thursday mornings.
These are some markets in different parts of south-east Asia.

Isaac & Meike are in Germany at present, you can now
enjoy some meetings on live tv

faded

Some of the oldest temples were so faded ~ only standing before
the walls for minutes, would the detail slowly shimmer into view.
I increased contrast so you could see, at low res; it also means
that subtlety of the design remnants disappears.

Flowers coming out everywhere. This is Grevillea.

Had to go to Ballina today. It has some old buildings that I like
better than the new shopping centres etc, maybe because
all small coastal towns had this feel, until.. when did it
all change to 'villas'?

this morning

Everyone had the same idea, to head for the beach. Even so,
it was relaxed, the wind blew away excess thoughts.

quiet day

In case they are not self explanatory,

twins

From the day we had our hair cut short ( as in heading),
& a little later, on the Barcoo River where we water ski-ed.
I think I may have taken more photos yesterday than
our family did in several years ~ with a Box Brownie.

Some kind of funny twinstuff. Years ago in LA I saw a show
of photographs of twins who'd married twins, it was quite illusory.
We are fraternal, not identical twins.
An interesting idea with old photos

mountains

Partly it's the view from my house (70's) in Dalhousie, the rest
is crinkled paper, which often resembles mountains, no?

Tibetan monk artist friends gave me this thangka for my
30th birthday, I was living in Himachel Pradesh then.
Its my twin's birthday today, mine tomorrow,
& here we are, at our first school.

I like Gerhard Richter's art a lot, not just his mountains

Stunning day at the beach today.
Lately I've been using my small camera, as it's less heavy,
today I took the Canon, the results are better

A lovely clarity to the light today, the sea was glittering,
& I liked the paint-by-numbers stage of the tree trunk.
Although whales are going north, haven't seen many.

Usually I think there is a light peculiar to Australia, most easily
seen in the greens ~ but when it's the same kind of trees,
it's hard to tell ( lower palms are in Laos )

Water reflections. I wonder if, in other languages,

bodhi tree

The ubiquitous symbol: the leaves of the bodhi tree.

Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche always comes to mind
when I see a bodhi tree (I first saw him sitting beneath the
one in Bodh Gaya). Here is the essence of his teaching.
